These pistons are also dual coated with phosphate and Grafal . Phosphate is a dry film lubricant that aids ring seating, helps prevent micro welding, and provides start up protection to the wrist pin bores. Grafal is a MAHLE proprietary skirt coating that consists of graphite in a resin base that provides excellent anti scuff and anti friction properties.
